Jail Ibrahim Mahama – Lawyer Kwame Adofo

The Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners Ibrahim Mahama and brother of former President John Mahama who has been accused of evading taxes must go to jail if found guilty of allegations leveled against him.

“If you commit an offense you have to pay for it to serve as deterrent to those standing by watching”, a private legal practitioner, Kwame Adofo said on Kumasi-based Ultimate Fm

‘Assuming I do not like you and I say you should be jailed does it mean you are going to be hauled to jail straight away? You will have to be put before a court first for the state to provide evidence against you”, he educated.

He admonished President Akufo-Addo to handle the case with keen interest to ensure appointees and party functionaries will not follow b suit by allegedly defrauding the state.

“People are watching and if nothing happens to Ibrahim Mahama people are also going to copy and sign fake cheques to transact business with state institutions”

Lawyer Kwame Adofo called for prosecution of the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Revenue Authority and other officials at the harbour for covering up such criminal deals.

Ibrahim Mahama is allegedly being investigated by EOCO over specific cheques he issued to the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the ports to clear heavy duty equipment imported into the country.

He has been ordered to pay GH¢12.7m to the Ghana Revenue Authority by May 8, 2017.

The amount represents duty for goods he cleared at the Tema Port with the said dud cheques in 2015 plus interest. The interest on the amount was worked by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
