J.H. Mensah denies media report

Sunyani, Feb. 25, GNA – Mr. John Henry Mensah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, has denied media reports that he intends to stand as a candidate in Election 2008.

“I keep the decision whether or not to contest close to my chest. I haven’t up till now even informed my wife nor the President about it and would not until I’m ready,” he said.

Speaking to newsmen and some constituency executives in Sunyani, Mr Mensah said it was the party’s prerogative to nominate or select candidates it deemed fit to contest an election “and this will be after several discussions and consultations have been made.”

“And even if I’m going to stand I’m obliged to follow the party’s constitution”, he said.

Mr. Mensah said it was important for media practitioners to investigate, to cross-check and to publish news stories from credible sources, while focusing on critical issues that seriously affect the growth of the society.

“I do not want any negative image painted about the constituency or its executives by the media against the backdrop that the NPP did not do well in Sunyani during the 2004 elections. This, however, is not to say that you should not publish the truth, talk about some development projects that have been executed or on-going,” he said.
