J.B Danquah’s funeral underway in Accra

The funeral of the murdered Abuakwa North MP Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu is underway at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The funeral is being attended by dignitaries from all walks of life including the leadership of parliament.

Both President John Mahama and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo are expected to be there.

The remains of the MP will be laid in-state for viewing between Friday and Saturday after which it will be conveyed to his hometown, Akyem Tafo, in the Eastern region for burial.

The opposition lawmaker was stabbed multiple times to death at his East Legon residence in February. The police has arrested a prime suspect Daniel Asiedu. Preliminary investigations suggested that the assailants may have used a ladder to enter the MP’s room via his window to execute their plan.

Danquah served as a Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs under the erstwhile Kufuor administration. He was the Abuakwa North MP from 2000 until 2008, when he lost the seat.
