The Bole District has so far registered and resettled 238 Ivorian refugees who arrived in the area following the conflict in their country.
This was announced by the Bole District Chief Executive, Mr. Saa Akati Mahama at a meeting with a three-member Ivorian Parliamentary delegation, who visited Bole to obtain information on how the Ivorian refugees were fairing in Ghana.
Mr. Mahama told the delegation that the Bole District Assembly has resettled all the refugees at a newly completed market funded by the Agriculture Sector Investment Programme (ASIP). He said apart from relief items including food, mattresses, tents lanterns and mats, provided by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the District Assembly has spent more than 30 million cedis on the purchase of food items, fuel for official vehicles, as well as the provision of security to the refugees. Mr. Mahama assured the Ivorian delegation that the government would continue to support the refugees until peace returns to Cote d’Ivoire.
The DCE appealed to the government for more financial assistance and an increase in the district’s medical supplies to cater for the ever-increasing number of refugees in the area.
Briefing the DCE on the delegation’s visit, the leader, Mr. Paley Dimartey said the members were in the district to assess the number of Ivorian refugees. He thanked the government for the support it has so far given to the refugees saying that; this is a testimony of the Ghanaian hospitality to strangers.
Mr. Dimartey later presented 200,000 CFA to support the assembly in maintaining the refugees. The MP also presented 300,000 CFA to the refugees and explained that the donation was from the Bouna community in Abidjan, which is in his constituency.
