I’ve Bought Cars for My Mother – Shatta Wale Breaks Silence on Mother neglect

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale, has denied allegations that he has abandoned or neglected his biological mother, describing the claims as baseless and misinformed.

Speaking candidly during a live podcast, the outspoken musician stated that he has consistently supported his mother over the years, though he has chosen not to publicise his efforts on social media.

“That my mother you people have been talking about… I don’t think you people have bought cars for your mother before. I’ve bought cars for my mother; I’ve done things for my mother,” he said. “It’s just that in this life, you win some and you lose some.”

The controversy follows an online exchange with Ghanaian content creator Kwadwo Sheldon, who declined an offer of support from the artiste after heavy rains flooded his home in Pantang. In a pointed response, Sheldon urged Shatta Wale to redirect his help towards his mother, suggesting she had been neglected, a claim that sparked fresh debate across social media platforms.

Addressing the accusation, Shatta Wale dismissed the notion that his mother had been left in need, pointing to multiple instances where he had provided for her privately.

“The number of cars I’ve bought for my mother—it’s just that we didn’t show it on the internet,” he said. “The beautiful places I have gotten for my mother to rest her head—you people don’t know about them. But those who know, know.”

Shatta Wale’s comments appear to be aimed at silencing online speculation and reinforcing his long-held stance on keeping personal family matters away from public view. He did not mention whether he and his mother are currently in contact.

The incident once again brings into focus the growing scrutiny Ghanaian public figures face from fans and commentators on social media, where personal lives are often dissected in the court of public opinion.
