“It’s Football, Things Happen” – Victor Boniface on Bayer Leverkusen Exit

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has shed light on his surprise departure from Bayer Leverkusen, insisting the decision was part of football’s unpredictability rather than a fallout with the club.

The 23-year-old, who played a key role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph last season, moved on during the summer transfer window in a deal that raised eyebrows among fans.

Speaking in an interview, Boniface stressed that his exit was not a reflection of strained relations with the German side.

“It’s football, you know… anything can happen. You can be somewhere one year, two years, or you can leave the next day,” he said. “It doesn’t change the fact that I have big respect for them and they also for me. It’s football, things happen.”

Boniface enjoyed a breakthrough season under Xabi Alonso, scoring crucial goals and becoming a fan favourite for his flair and determination. His departure marks the end of a brief but memorable spell in Leverkusen colours.

While the striker did not reveal specific reasons behind the transfer, he reiterated his appreciation for the club and supporters, leaving the door open for a positive legacy in Germany.

Boniface now turns his focus to the next chapter of his career, aiming to replicate his form and continue his rise on the European stage.
