ISUOG donates ultrasound equipment to Kumasi hospitals

Kumasi, Sept. 12, GNA – The International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG), has donated modern ultrasound equipment, valued at $205,000, to some health institutions in Kumasi. Madam Nana Abena Akuamoah-Boateng, Project Manager of Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) Ghana, told GNA that the three machines would be distributed to the major health facilities in the city, to help improve health care delivery.

The equipment was donated at the closing of a five-day training workshop on outreach Obstetrics and Gynaecology, organised by the MCI Ghana in collaboration with ISUOG at the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi on Friday.

Seventeen participants selected from both government and private health facilities in Kumasi participated in workshop. Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, Medical Superintendent of Suntreso Government Hospital and Coordinator of the programme, called for the holding of regular workshops for health practitioners to enable them to dispense quality health care.

He gave the assurance that health facilities in the Kumasi Metropolis would be directed to organise courses for ISUOG scanning teams for effective handling of the equipment. Dr. Opoku-Adusei announced that Dr Daniel Asante Mante, a Specialist Obstetrician-Gynaecologist, would be the Metropolitan Coordinator for the Kumasi ISUOG scanning team.

Dr Asante would be assisted by Ms Erica Awindor, a Midwife, and the two officials would report to the Metropolitan Director of Health Service for support and direction as well as the maintenance of the equipment.

Dr. Opoku-Adusei thanked the donors for the gesture and gave the assurance that the machines would be put to good use. He appealed to MCI and ISUOG would help in equipping more health institutions with modern ultrasound machines.
