Islamic urges Muslims to embrace education and ICT

Takoradi, Oct 03, GNA – Sheik Ishaak Ibrahim Nuamah, an Islamic scholar, has said Moslems must change their negative attitudes towards education, information technology and science. He said Moslems, in order to transform their status in the society in which they live, must master new technologies that now dominate the world.

Sheik Nuamah said this at a day’s forum organised for Moslem groups in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis on Saturday. He said disunity, fighting, insults and ill feeling among Moslems was not helping the religion but rather creating more problems for them. He said Moslems must unite and use their resources to build schools, hospitals, agricultural and scientific institutes that would be beneficial to them and the nation as a whole.

Sheik Nuamah advised leaders of the various Moslem communities in the country to persuade their youth to take their education seriously and avoid being used by politicians during elections.

Sheik Mohammed Nazir, a lecturer at the School of Languages Kumasi, said the adoption and use of violence and retaliation was anti-Moslem. Alhaji Adam Alhassan, who chaired the function, said there was the need for Moslems to establish an Islamic Training Institute for the training of Imams, clerics and scholars in Quoranic content and public speaking techniques among others. 03 Oct 05
