Sheik Osman Mustapha Opoku, National Secretary of the Islamic Mission Secretariat, has announced that the Mission envisages constructing hospitals at Techiman and New Dormaa, the latter, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality.
The two projects, he said, would complement government’s efforts in providing health delivery services to the people at their doorsteps.
Sheik Opoku, also a lecturer at the Catholic University at Fiapre, near Sunyani, disclosed this at the 50th Annual National Convention and fundraising rally organised by the Islamic Mission Secretariat at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
He stated that the Secretariat, a partner in the country’s development, has a number of schools across the country, all supporting the development of education among the youth.
Sheik Opoku also announced that his outfit has begun the construction of an Islamic University College of Education at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano South of Brong-Ahafo Region, stressing that the traditional authorities had released about 124 acres of land for the project.
He said the Secretariat was a Union of all Muslims, with an objective to promote peace, unity and co-operation among all people, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
Madam Stella Amoatemaa, Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the Secretariat for the foresight, particularly in siting its first Islamic University College of Education in Brong-Ahafo, to help move education in the region forward.
Madam Amoatemaa urged Islamic youth to be self-disciplined and eschew negative attitudes and practices that can tarnish the image of their religion, which is noted for its peace and co-existence.
She called on Muslims to embrace the National Sanitation Day programme by keeping their environments clean to prevent the outbreak of epidemics.
Alhaji Yakub Manu, National Chairman of the Secretariat, said the Mission would continue to support government in line with its objective as partner in development.
Alhaji Manu, also the National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) urged Muslims to have fellow feelings for themselves, and support their neighbours to promote love, peace and understanding in society.
He paid glowing tribute to the late Sheik Mahamadu Appeadu, a native of Bonsu near Nkoranza, for spearheading the establishment of the Islamic Mission Secretariat which, he said, had contributed towards the solidarity of Muslims in Ghana.
Alhaji Manu said the establishment of the Islamic University College of Education at Duayaw-Nkwanta would encourage Islamic youth to be trained in that direction, and promote the religion among the younger generation.
