ISD launches campaign to explain government policies

Atwedie (Ash), Oct. 31, GNA – The Asante-Akim South District office of the Information Services Department (ISD), has embarked on a two-week campaign to explain government’s policies and promote peaceful election.

The exercise, aimed at keeping the people abreast with government policies and programmes, would cover the entire Asante-Akim district to enable people appreciate government’s efforts at improving their livelihood.

Mr Cosmos Amankwaa, an official of the ISD, addressing the chiefs and people of Atwedie near Juaso on Wednesday, said government had invested heavily in the education sector to make it accessible to all Ghanaians.

He mentioned the capitation grant, school feeding programme and the new education reform as some of the interventions introduced by government.

On health, Mr Amankwaa mentioned the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the free medical care for pregnant women and entreated beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their health status. Other government’s programmes he spoke on were the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), the mass cocoa spraying exercise and the creation of various credit facilities for businesses, especially small and medium scale operators.

Mr Amankwaa said peaceful election was essential for government to improve the living conditions of the people as well as to national development, adding that it was incumbent on every Ghanaian to desist from act that could endanger the peace that was being enjoyed. Mr Kofi Owusu-Ansah, assembly member for the area, implored chiefs, opinion leaders and parents to join in the effort to promote peace.
