Is the Supreme Court a movie theatre – Afari Gyan inquires

Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has responded to an enquiry by Justice Dotse seeking to know where the returning officer for the 2012 presidential elections has been hibernating.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s morning show, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan clearly told the host that it was unnecessary to mount pressure on him by asking him to be present during proceedings in court when the place wasn’t a movie house.

He also noted that it was not compulsory for him to show up in court since it was the Electoral Commission as an institution that has been sued by the petitioners and not him personally.

He therefore urged all to leave him out of the media debate and allow him to enjoy the serene air blowing around him.

Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan ended by claiming that hearing of the NPP’s petition filed at the Supreme Court is still at the preliminary stages and has not reached substantive stage where his presence would be needed.
