General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, boiled over when he heard General Secretary of the opposition New Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, calling for the immediate resignation of Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan as Chairman for the Electoral Commissioner (EC).
“Does he (Sir John) still talk? Someone who has signed a bond for good behaviour in court? Had it not been for the bond, I reckon he would have said worse things than this. Why does he want Afari-Gyan to resign?
“…Why is Sir John destroying Afari-Gyan’s name after the court dismissed all their (NPP) acclaimed irregularities? Or are they (NPP) being hunted by some spirits? Beyond Supreme Court, what else…what can convince the NPP that they lost the petition case, what? He asked.
Sir John had earlier claimed that the EC’s Chairman has lost all credibility and can no longer be considered as a credible person to head the institution, thus should leave office as a matter of urgency before any meaningful electoral reforms can be done, ahead of the 2016 elections.
But Johnson Asiedu Nketia also known as General Mosquito in an interview with Adom FM rather counseled the NPP scribe to resign his post, for his failure to deliver victory for the party in the 2012 polls.
He also accused Sir John of employing incompetent agents to represent the NPP at polling stations during the 2012 election, which subsequently resulted in the NPP’s electoral defeat.
However, Asiedu Nketia stated that Dr. Afari-Gyan should rather be commended for distinguishing himself well in pushing the frontiers of Ghana’s electoral process to the admiration of the international community.
General Mosquito passionately advised the media to desist from giving mileage to Sir John’s utterances since the apex court has once regarded his comments as unfitting.
