Irrigation project commissioned at Abuontem

Abuontem (B/A), Nov 27, GNA- Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, on Wednesday commissioned an irrigation project for boosting agriculture at Abuontem in the district in Brong Ahafo.

He said the government is committed to the welfare of farmers and the provision of the facility offered to farmers in the area.

He urged the youth to take advantage of the facility to improve their socio-economic activities to enhance their living standards.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi said he was in contact with the management of the Tomato processing factory at Wenchi for the supply of tomato seeds to farmers in the area, and advised them form co-operatives groups so they could enjoy credit facilities from the banks.

Mr Oppong Brown, National Co-ordinator of the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) said the facility was part of the government’s programme to help people in the rural areas to improve their living conditions.

He urged the people to patronize the facility so that the huge investment made would not be a waste, saying the project was a gold mine for the youth and must embark on serious farming.

Nana Ampoma Sika Boadum 11, chief of Abuontem commended the government for the project and appealed for a storage facility to help the farmers store their produce.
