Irate youth vandalize NDC former candidate vehicle

Kpassa (V/R), May 6, GNA – An exasperated youth group, numbering about 20, on Tuesday vandalized a Wrangler Sahara Jeep belonging to Dr Mamboa Rockson, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the 2008 general elections, in the Nkwanta North Constituency at Kpassa. It is believed that the action of the youth group stemmed from the incessant insults and threats of death on Nana Obour Konja V, Chief of Kpassa by Dr Rockson.

The group which wielded offensive weapons including cutlasses, sticks and cudgels smashed the windscreens, headlamps and dented the body of the jeep, descending heavily on the two occupants of the vehicle.

Charles Poatob, driver of the jeep and his partner Kenneth Kitinkawah, who were beaten mercilessly also sustained cutlass wounds, but escaped from further wrath of the group when he sped-off to Nkwanta to report the incident and also to seek police protection. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Douglas Kumah, Nkwanta District Police Commander, who corroborated the incident, said Dr Rockson was sneaked out of Kpassa town under police escort to avoid the incensed youth group from lynching him. He said calm had since returned and people were going about their normal duties.

Mr Kumah said Michael Dakoja alias Rasta, who also got injured is assisting the police in their investigations. Meanwhile Poatob and Kitinkawah have been treated and discharged at the Nkwanta District hospital. The Nkwanta North District Security Committee is at present meeting over the incident. 6 May 09
