Irate contractors storm GETFund Secretariat

Contractors have besieged the offices of the GETFund Secretariat at the Airport Residential area in Accra to demand the release of unpaid moneys for contracts executed.

The Administrator of the GETFund, Mr Sam Garbah and his officials are locked up in a meeting ostensibly to find a solution to the plight of the contractors.

According to the contractors, the authorities at GETFund have breached agreed dates set for the payment of work done.

About 30 of them Monday morning called off a protest march to the castle following the intervention of the board chairman of GETFUND, Dr Kwabena Agyei.

The agitated contractors have vowed to face-off with officials of the GETFund if nothing is done to mitigate their problems.

A contractor who spoke to XYZ News’ Kwame Danso Acheampong said for the past seven months, the GEFund administrators have been evading the payment of their moneys; a situation which has compounded their economic difficulties.

“How can we work for you for all these months; we have borrowed money at very high interest rates. We come here for our money and you tell us you don’t have money.”

According to the contractor, the GETFund administrator has refused speak to them, which has compelled them to gear up for an encounter.**
