Iranian Red Crescent holds free medical outreach for the people of Nima

Accra, Aug. 28, GNA – The Iranian Red Crescent in conjunction with the Ghana Red Cross on Saturday organized a free medical outreach for the people of Nima in Accra.

The exercise, which attracted over 300 people, was aimed at sick persons in the area who could not afford to visit the hospitals.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Reza Balador, Head of the Medical Team, said the outreach programme came about due to the good partnership the Iranian Red Crescent had formed with the Ghana Red Cross and also due to the goodwill it had with Ghanaians.

Dr Balador, Director of Iran Clinic, said some of the medications made available for the outreach included malaria drugs, antibiotics for various infections, skin ointments and body lotions and basic medication for diarrhoea, dental problems and other diseases.

“Other sicknesses which cannot be treated over here would be referred to the hospital,” he added.

Professor Kwabena Mante Bosompem, President of the Ghana Red Cross, expressed appreciation to the Iranian Embassy for its assistance to the Ghana Red Cross.

“Similar medical programmes have been organized by the Iran Red Crescent at Abokobi and Jamestown and we very much appreciate it,” he said.

He pledged the Ghana Red Cross’ commitment in forming partnership with other medical organisations in its mandate of bring good health to Ghanaians.

Mr Latifi Namir, Iranian Ambassador to Ghana, said he was happy about the high turnout for the programme and urged other organizations to endeavour to invest in the health sector since it was vital to the socio economic development of the country.

He said all the drugs for the outreach programme were donated by Iran Clinic.
