Iranian delegation calls on President Kufuor

Accra, March 30, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday held a closed door meeting with some members of the 90-member Iranian delegation on a three West African nations tour at the Castle, Osu. The delegation led by Dr Kamal Kharrazi, Iranian Foreign Minister, is on a two-day visit to Ghana from Senegal and would also visit Nigeria.

Speaking before the closed-door session, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the tour by the delegation was to renew their relationships with countries that had embarked on democratic rule within the Sub-Region. He said their discussions with the countries would centre on empowering the private sector to take on the initiative for the development of the countries.

Nana Akufo-Addo said the delegation would hold discussions with their Ghanaian counterparts in the energy; road construction; social activities; education and health sectors. Highlights of the Iranian Delegation’s visit would be the signing of a Development Assistance Agreement under which Iran would give Ghana 1.5 million dollars for budgetary support. The delegation would leave for Nigeria on Wednesday.
