Involve Civil Servants In Drawing Up VAT – Chigabatia

Takoradi, 5 June Mr Smart Chigabatia, Executive Secretary of the Civil Servants Association of Ghana, has called on the government to liaise with the leadership of organized labour and identifiable bodies to initiate modalities on the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT).

Mr Chigabatia said apart from the cooperation that would exist between the government and trade unions in the implementation of this policy, it will afford them the opportunity to educate their members on the importance of VAT.

Speaking at a forum organized for civil servants at Takoradi today, Mr Chigabatia said he was not happy with the situation whereby government ”excludes organised labour from policies that require their opinion and advice”.

Government ought to be guided by past events, especially demonstrations and price increases, which welcomed VAT at its first introduction last year.
