Investigate background of house helps – Commander

Tema, Sept. 02, GNA — The Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Daniel Laryea Odai, has advised landlords and house owners to investigate the background of those they employ as house helps before engaging their services. He said, if possible, landlords should feed the police with all the necessary information on those they engage to ensure they do not employ the services of criminals.

Speaking to newsmen in Tema, the Regional Commander stated that recent investigations by the Police had revealed that most of the robbery attacks were facilitated by house helps.

He said on August 25, this year, six armed robbers attacked a house at Community 19, on the Spintex road and made away with 19,500 dollars. ACP Odai said later in a swoop around that area, the police arrested eight suspected criminals some of whom were in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, with two of them being on the Police wanted list.

He said the two wanted robbers were later identified as amongst those who robbed the house at Community 19.

The Police Commander said during interrogation, they mentioned the house boy of the house, one Francis Kwaku Yeaboah, a fridge mechanic as the one who arranged with them to steal the money his master had taken delivery of on that fateful day.

In a related development, the Tema Police in a swoop at different dens of criminals in the Municipality, on Friday arrested 22 suspects with some of them in possession of large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The areas of the swoop included Ashaiman, the Community Nine Cemetery, and Site Two of Community One.

According to the Regional Commander, after screening the suspects, they would be put before court.

He said through the efforts of the Buffalo Unit, all trucks whose wrongful packing, had for sometime now resulted in so many accidents, had been removed from the road, with the few recalcitrant drivers arrested and put before court.
