Invest in education, reserving money for future ‘needless’ – Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has expressed disappointment in opponents of the government’s decision to use the Heritage Fund to implement President Nana Akufo-Addo free SHS policy.

According to him, he sees nothing wrong if the government wants to use the Heritage Fund as a source of funding for the SHS because education is a vital to the success of the economy.

Speaking on Kokrokoo on Peace FM, Kwesi Pratt questioned the logic in saving money for future generations when it can be used to benefit today’s generation and improve the economy.

In his view, it won’t be advisable to keep the Heritage Fund till the next generations come to withdraw from it.

He explained that Ghana’s currency keeps shifting value and it is difficult for the nation to guarantee that there won’t be any fluctuations in the value of the currency so as to store up the Heritage Fund for the future leaders.

To him, the nation should rather invest in the children of today to build them into great future leaders in order to address the country’s challenges.

“If you’re investing in the future, one of the best investments you can make in the future is education. It’s a major investment in the future and whatever way we can adopt to invest in the education, let’s use it so there will be progress in education. If we don’t it that way and we rather put some ‘useless’ money down somewhere, that money won’t help us in anyway,” Kwesi Pratt stated.
