Sekondi, Aug.16, GNA- Inspector Nana Ekow Yawson, Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service on Saturday said assault on teachers by some parents is one of the major factors for indiscipline in the country.
He said society must avoid parents who either assault teachers verbally or physically in the presence of pupils.
Inspector Yawson was speaking at a ceremony to mark the United Nations International Youth Day at Sekondi. The theme was: “Indiscipline among the youth”, and it was organised by the Western Regional branch of the United Nations Association of Ghana.
He said some students also constitute themselves into vigilante groups and harass fellow students or destroy school property. Inspector Yawson stressed that without discipline; any effort towards development will be in vain.
He urged the youth to join social clubs and learn more about discipline.
Mr Francis S. Aidoo, Regional Chairman of UNAG said the day is celebrated on August 12, every year and urged the youth to channel their energies and experience towards nation building. Mr. Sydney Cofie, the Regional Co-ordinator advised the youth to avoid drug abuse and early sex.
