International Press Center On Fire

An electrical fault on a switch at the Press Centre resulted in fire that damaged one of the air conditioners in the Internet Cafe.

While there was still light in the main building, all the air conditioners on the same line were disconnected to ensure that no further damage was done.

Mr Bright Blewu, Director of the Press Centre, said the fire was purely accidental and that the faulty switch would be changed. He said it was unfortunate the fire broke out in a crucial hour when real work was expected to begin.

Mr Blewu said the fire could slow down activities as results were expected to trickle in from 2000 hours but expressed the hope that contingency measures would be put in place to enable journalists to make use of the caf=E9 to transmit their stories.
