International Day of Families to be observed

Accra, May 11, GNA – The International Day of Families, a day proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly 11 years ago, to reflect on the importance that the international community attached to family lives worldwide, would be celebrated on May 15, this year. The day would provide families an opportunity to promote awareness on families as basic units of the society so as to promote appropriate action.

The International theme for the celebration is, “Observance of the Tenth Anniversary of the International Year of the Family 2004.”

A statement Mr. Anthony Mensah, Executive Chairman, of Landlife (Ghana), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), signed on Tuesday said the organisation in co-operation with the Executive Committee of Non-governmental Organisations affiliated to the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) would observe the day with a massive clean-up at the Kaneshie Market.

It said the clean-up exercise would be sustained on daily bases with ten permanent staffs of the organisation for one year as the organisation’s contribution to the effort of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to keep the city clean.
