International Children’s Book Day launched

Winneba (C/R) May 16 GNA- The South Campus of the University of Education Practice Junior Secondary School, emerged winners of a story-telling competition organised by the Ghana Library Board for schools at Winneba with 54 points.

Their counterpart from the North Campus took the second position with 53 points followed by AME Zion JSS with 44 points. All the competing schools were given cash prizes as awards. The competition was part of the 2005 International Children’s Book Day and Library Awareness Week, aimed at promoting reading culture among the pupils.

The acting Central Regional Librarian, Mr Frederic Noble Baada appealed to stakeholders to create a literate environment and an informed society by making reading materials available to the libraries. He called for accommodation facilities for the district libraries. The District Librarian, Mr Seth Bortsie urged pupils to cultivate reading habits. 16 May 05
