International Challenge Cup Tournament Explosion in U.S.A

Tired of watching EURO 2008? Well then, strap on those boots and come join in on the fun! The 2nd Annual International Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament is set to kickoff on July 12th at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. This summer’s showdown promises to go down in history as the event of the summer with 16 teams from the tri-state area locking horns for the ultimate prize-the “Challenge Cup” trophy. The annual tournament is hosted by Nasare Sports Foundation, a non profit organization based in New York and Texas responsible for organizing and promoting sports and fitness events in international communities across the United States.

This year’s event has been highly anticipated by many soccer loving fans in the tri-state area and will feature some the nation’s best unknown soccer talent. The International Challenge Cup soccer tournament is known to be a platform for new and old school footballers from Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, Sierre Leone, Mali, Senegal, Cameroon as well as many Caribbean nations and is best characterized by its display of camaraderie, dancing, food, culture and fun.

The format of the Challenge Cup is similar to that of the African Cup of Nations and Euro 2008 with 16 teams split into 4 groups A, B, C, and D for the preliminary rounds. The top two teams from each group (based on points) will then enter the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and then the finals. The preliminary rounds will be played on July 12th -13th and July 19th-20th with quarter finals and semi-finals being held on July 26th and July 27th for the final extravaganza.

Included in this year’s tournament is the Vigo All-Star Skills Challenge, a skills competition exclusively sponsored by Vigo Money transfer where two players from each team would be allowed to represent their team in a 60yard dash, dribbling and shooting drill, and a timed obstacle course. Winners will be eligible for a multitude of prizes presented by Vigo.
