Interior Minister urged to protect traders from robbers

Nsawam (E/R), Aug. 10, GNA – Madam Leticia Tieko, Market queen of the Yam Sellers Association at Nsawam in the Akuapem South District on Monday appealed to the Minister of the Interior for protection for members of the Association from armed robbers.

Madam Tieko made the appeal when she addressed yam sellers at a meeting to find ways of how best they could protect themselves and their property from robbers.

The meeting followed an attack on a group of yam sellers about a fortnight ago by armed robbers at Atimpoku, Worawora and Apesekubi all in the Volta Region where they had gone to purchase yam.

“Trading in yams is the only business some of us do to pay for our children’s school fees and to look after our families,” she said and appealed to the Ministry to take steps to protect the traders to enable them to go about their businesses in a peaceful atmosphere to help move the nation forward.
