Ghana’s Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, has inaugurated the Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in a ceremony held in Accra. The move aims to bolster the Service’s institutional capacity and enhance its pivotal role in national security and development.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Hon. Mubarak expressed optimism about the Council’s ability to guide the GIS toward becoming a modern, responsive, and proactive institution.
“I urged Council members to work closely with the Comptroller-General to deliver on the Service’s Strategic Plan, focused on securing borders, legal migration, and improved service delivery,” the Interior Minister wrote.
The newly inaugurated Council is expected to prioritize initiatives that secure Ghana’s borders, regulate legal migration, and improve overall efficiency within the GIS. These measures are in line with the Service’s long-term Strategic Plan to address emerging challenges in migration and border management.
Hon. Mubarak highlighted the importance of unity and commitment, stressing that the Council’s collaboration with the Comptroller-General is key to achieving its objectives.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize and strengthen national security institutions, as Ghana faces evolving migration trends and global security concerns.
The Interior Ministry has reaffirmed its support for the Council, pledging to provide the necessary resources and frameworks to ensure its success in delivering a more secure and service-oriented Immigration Service.
