Interim committee for Bawku Central Constituency

Bawku (UE/R), Aug. 22, GNA – A ten-member interim executive committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Bawku Central constituency in the Upper East Region, has been inaugurated by the national chairman, Mr Peter Mac Manu.

The committee, which has a one-month term of office, is to resolve all internal disputes between the two feuding factions within the party, before organising elections for a substantive executive to steer the affairs of the party in the 2008 elections.

It has also been charged with the responsibility to organise elections for the 37 polling stations executives.

Five members were chosen from each of the two contending factions after both the old and new executives were dissolved. The former vice-chairman, Mr Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, was nominated the interim chairman, Alhaji Bukari Nuhu, 1st vice-chairman, Alhaji Adam Fuseini, 2nd vice-chairman and Mr Issah Zangbego, secretary. The rest are Bashiru Wahabu, assistant secretary, Amadu Seidu, organiser, Hajia Hajara Bakinkarfe, women organiser, Isaac Anaba, youth organiser, Awudu Gumah, treasurer and Zanga Abudulai, financial secretary.

The inaugural ceremony, which also brought back the independent candidate and his supporters into the party’s fold, has paved the way for the party to position itself well in the area after three fruitless attempts to reconcile the two sides.

Inaugurating it, Mr Manu underscored the need for unity for the party, adding that, the interests of the party should overshadow that of individuals in order to meet the aspirations of all in it. He said with the resolution of their differences the party would be in a good stead to dislodge its main contender from the seat it took due to their misunderstandings that led to the NPP relinquishing it to the NDC, as they all aspired to witness.

Mr Manu urged the supporters to bury their differences and work together as a team to re-build the party in order to ensure a resounding victory to carry out it human-centred policy to develop the nation. He disclosed that a general amnesty had been granted to all supporters, who left the party and had returned with the hope that their grievances would be addressed appropriately to forestall such occurrences in future. Mr Issah Zangbego, on behalf of the interim committee, thanked the chairman for his personal commitment to see to it that the impasse in the constituency was resolved amicably without any of the faction feeling cheated. He conveyed the apology of the two sides to the chairman and gave the assurance that the committee would abide by the terms of its office to ensure that the past mistakes were not repeated. 22 Aug. 06
