Interfaith Ghana promotes Inter-Faith dialogue

Accra, Oct. 19, GNA – Interfaith Ghana, a non- profit organisation, has initiated a month- long youth focused programme aimed at building understanding between different faith groups.

The programme also aims at facilitating inter-faith co-operation through the use of dialogue to achieve national and Commonwealth objectives in development and governance.

A statement signed by Mr Gideon Commey, Co-director of Interfaith Ghana and copied to the Ghana News Agency said, the event dubbed: “Interfaith Ghana Month 2010,” is being sponsored by the Commonwealth Foundation and British Council Ghana.

The statement outlined activities such as Faith Gender Teams, an event that would bring together young people from different backgrounds to discuss how they can be actively involved in community and national decision making.

There would also be a session on Faith and Climate Change and Photography, which would also assemble young people to deliberate on fighting climate change in Ghana through inter-faith dialogue.

The two programmes are slated for the British Council Hall, Accra, on October 19 and October 26.

Interfaith Ghana focuses primarily on getting the different faiths in Ghana to integrate, interact and share knowledge by working together on social action projects to promote the community and national development agenda.

The statement noted that people understand each other better if they are made to work on social action projects which focus on the common values behind their faith, rather than worrying about the differences between them.

“Interfaith Ghana encourages Ghanaians to identify what in their faith makes them care and how other people are feeling. in order to realise the full benefits of inter-faith interaction and co operation.”
