Intensify Public Education on Environmental Sustainability

Dr. Andrew Akwasi Amoako, Chief Scientist and Professor of Wood Products Engineering, has urged the authorities of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to intensify public education on environmental sustainability in the country.
Dr. Andrew Akwasi Amoako, a chief Scientist and Professor of Wood Products Engineering, made the call recently when he presented a paper on ‘The Environment’ during the first Ever Synod of Konongo Mampong Catholic Diocese at the Spiritan University College at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
He explained that one way for the environmental problems facing Ghana to be reduced was for the EPA to embark on more public education particularly in schools, churches and mosques
He said that they could do this by organizing workshops, talks, symposiums, role plays and other educational programs on the need for the people to observe environmental laws in the country.
He indicated that Ghana forest has reduced by 18.3% for the past 50 years and mentioned construction activities, farming and lumbering as some of the major activities which were destroying the environment.
Dr. Akwasi Amoako, urged Ghanaians to develope positive attitude towards the environment.
