Gridlocks are expected to ease drastically in Ghana as the government plans to install sophisticated traffic lights in the urban areas.
According to President John Mahama, the intelligent traffic signal systems which will be rolled out in his second term will “ease traffic in the major cities.”
Highlighting key areas of the 2016 Manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tuesday, Mahama said the intelligent traffic lights can tell which side of the road is experiencing heavy vehicular traffic and will immediately give priority to that aspect of the road.
The idea is to enhance productivity since a lot of man hours are spent in traffic daily, especially in the major cities.
Mahama noted: “By the time I leave office, Ghana will have the best road network in West Africa, that’s my dream.”
He promised to build two bridges over the Tema Motorway to stop the use of the Cattle Tunnel as well as create easy access to East Legon.
According to him, the road network in Ghana will be expanded tremendously as government plans to “dualize the Accra-Kumasi and Accra-Takoradi and Aflao to Accra roads” under his second term.
The seventh election under the Fourth Republic is slated for December 7 where Mahama faces off with his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
