Instrumentalist Union of K-Poly launches AIDS campaign

Kumasi, July 4, GNA – The Instrumentalist Union of the Kumasi Polytechnic in collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has launched a campaign against the spread of the HIV/AIDS especially among the youth.

Dubbed, “Vision Media Entertainment Campaign”, the union aimed to reach out and sensitise the youth on the pandemic through stage performances, talk shows, documentaries and seminars.

The Union also seeks to offer the youth especially students counselling and leadership workshops to enable them to face the challenge.

The launching was under the theme: “Creating formation drive for the HIV/AIDS awareness and indiscipline in the Ghanaian society”.

In an address, Mr Banafo Cudjoe, Vice-Principal of the Polytechnic, expressed dissatisfaction about the careless sexual lifestyle of the youth in spite of efforts by the government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to reduce the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country.

He wondered how the nation’s socio-economic development could be ensured, “if the youth are reluctant in demonstrating their resolve to lead morally upright lifestyles”.

Mr Cudjoe observed that as the backbone of the nation’s economic development, it behoved on the youth to stay away from sexual promiscuity and other social vices that could jeopardise their future.

Mr Solomon Owusu, President of the Union, said the group would train 2,000 peer educators in the Ashanti region by the end of the year
