Institute supports farmers at Asawase

Asawase (Ash), Jan 16, GNA – The Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) in collaboration with Perpetual Prosperity Pumps Foundation, a US-based non-governmental organization (NGO) have presented farm implements, ruminants and improved seedlings to 26 selected farmers at Asawase in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality. These included Wellington boots, watering cans, rabbits and rabbit hutches, chicken and pens, palm and citrus seedlings The items meant to boost the agricultural activities of the beneficiaries were given out to them after an eight-week training programme organized by the Institute to expose them to modern farming techniques.

Mr. Samuel Owusu-Takyi, Chief Executive Officer of KITA, said they were educated on savings and banking culture, personal financial management, farm entrepreneurship, bee-keeping, poultry and mushroom farming.

He said he was hopeful that the training would help the farmers to adopt modern practices for sustainable development of agriculture. He said it was high time farmers did away with outmoded practices and learned improved farming technologies for increased crop yield and returns.

Nana Asamoah Agyepong, Chief of Asawase, thanked the Institute for its continued support for farmers in the area by way of training. He urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the items to grow their farming business. 16 Jan.10
