Institute strong and effective control measure over money -Minister

Kumasi, Aug 22, GNA – Mr Yaw Ampofo-Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports (MOES), has asked heads of basic schools and School Management Committees (SMCs) to institute effective internal control systems to ensure the judicious use of their capitation grants.

Mr Twumasi-Ampofo was speaking at the five-day training workshop on the management of the school capitation grant and selection of textbooks at the school level for district education management staff and representatives of district assemblies in Kumasi at the weekend. He said it was to facilitate easy access to quality education that the government introduced the capitation grant scheme at the basic school level and called on the staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure its successful implementation.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, Chairman of the Conference of District Directors of Education (CODDE), gave the assurance that they were committed to the successful implementation of the scheme and the net textbooks policy.

Some of the participants who talked to the Ghana News Agency held that the successful implementation of the scheme and the selection of textbooks at the school level rested on all Ghanaians, especially teachers, SMCs and parents.

Under the capitation grant scheme, every registered public school will receive 25,000 cedis per boy enrolled and 35,000 cedis per girl enrolled annually.
