Inmate poisoned to death at K’si Central prisons

Police in the Ashanti region are investigating the alleged poisoning of an inmate at the Kumasi Central prisons.

Ultimate News understands the inmate, yet to be identified, was poisoned by his close relatives through food, in order to cover up some sensitive information they feared he would divulge to the Police while in cells.

It is unclear when the deceased ate the food.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Central Prisons Richard Bukari, the inmate died at the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital after complaining of intense stomach ache. He, however, said his outfit will formally comment on the matter after an autopsy has been conducted on the body.

“For security reasons we can’t come out now until an autopsy has been conducted on the body,” he told Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti regional Police crime officer Peter Baba has confirmed the arrest of some relatives of the deceased to assist with investigations.
