Information officer fined for neglect of parental duty

Cape Coast, July 14, GNA – A Cape Coast Circuit Court, on Tuesday imposed a fine of 400,000 cedis on Addison Larbi, an Information Officer for neglect of parental responsibility.

Larbi who pleaded guilty to the offence will be jailed for four months in default.

The Court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, also ordered the accused to remit his wife and children with an initial 200,000 cedis by the end of July, this year, before the amount is reviewed.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Hope Azasoo told the Court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that Larbi who is on transfer to Kumasi, failed to remit his wife for one- and- half years, shortly after she gave birth to a baby boy.

Inspector Azasoo said the woman, who was leaving with her parents at Mankessim in the Central Region, decided to visit the husband, where she became pregnant again and gave birth to a set of twins.

She returned to Mankessim where one of the twins died. The accused was informed about the incident, but he refused to attend the funeral and also abandoned his wife and children to their fate.
