INFOGRAPHIC: Total votes cast and percentage turnout (1992 – 2012)

4,127,876 votes were cast out of the 8,229,902 in the 1992 presidential elections representing 50.2% voter turnout.

In 1996, 7,266,693 votes were cast out of the 9,279,605 representing 78.3% voter turnout.

6,605,084 votes were cast out of the 10,698,652 in the 2000 presidential elections representing 61.7% voter turnout.

8,313,908 votes were cast out of the 10,354,970 in the 2004 presidential elections representing 85.1% voter turnout.

8,671,272 votes were cast out of the 12,472,758 in the 2008 presidential elections representing 69.52% voter turnout.

11,246,982 votes were cast out of the 14,158,890 in the 2008 presidential elections representing 79.43% voter turnout.

The 2004 presidential election saw the highest voter turnout (85.1%) yet the lowest increase in total voter registered.

The 1992 presidential election witnessed the lowest voter turnout (50.2%). Total voter turnout during the 1996 presidential election increased by 28.1% after the 1992 elections.
