Indiscriminate shooting at Half Assini

Police have invaded Ekpu, a fishing community near Half Assini in the Western Region, and shooting indiscriminately, leaving residents in intense fear, Onua FM has gathered.

Narrating the incident to Onua FM morning show host Bright Kwesi Asempa, the Assemblyman of the Ekpu electoral area, Peter Miezah, described the situation as ‘hostage situation’, adding that the community has not experienced such invasion before.

“We are all surprised and terrified by the way the very people who are supposed to protect lives and property would invade a community in the early hours of the day amidst indiscriminate shooting. “Everyone is afraid to go out, and we are all indoors since the police entered the community since dawn”.

Asked what he thinks may have caused the police to “invade” the community, the Assemblyman retorted: “As I can recall, there was an incident involving the youths of the community last week but there was no response from the police since then, so it was surprising to be woken this dawn by warning shots”.

The Assemblyman has therefore made passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police and the Western Regional Police Commander to intervene in order to restore calm so that they can go about their normal activities.
