Indicted EC officials to remain at post

The Electoral Commission has stated that the two directors of the Commission who have been indicted in a bribery and corruption case will continue to be at post till investigations conclude otherwise.

The Director for Election, Isaac Kofi Asomaning and the Director for Logistics, Asante Kissi, were both arrested on Monday after the founder of the New Vision Party (NVP), Prophet Daniel Nkansah accused them of allegedly taking Gh¢1,600 bribe from him to facilitate the filing of his nomination forms.

The Public Affairs Director at the Commission, Christian Owusu Parry has told in an interview with an Accra based radio station indicated that “the Commission has not asked them to leave their post until investigations are completed because we believe for now it’s an allegation that has to be substantiated. So if the allegation has not been substantiated, it will be a bit premature to say that the officers in question should not be at their post.”

He also stated that the integrity of the EC will only be tarnished if the men are found guilty.

He said: “In so far as we are concerned, it is only an allegation until it is substantiated and found to be true, there is no loss of reputation at all. Image cleansing will come only when the allegation is proven to be true.”
