Indian Association donates equipment to KNUST

Kumasi, June 18, GNA – The Indian Association on Saturday donated two Trial Lens Sets worth 3000 dollars to the Optometry Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, in Kumasi. Presenting the equipment on behalf of the association, Professor Mohan Mahtani, said the equipment was to help in the training of personnel to treat eye problems in the country.

He said the association had undertaken a number of outreach programmes to screen and treat eye problems of Ghanaians especially children in basic schools.

Profeesor Mahtani said the association was committed to the prevention of blindness in society and said the equipment would help equip students to undertake that charge.

Professor K Singh, acting Provost of the College of Sciences, who received the equipment, thanked the association for the gesture. He appealed to the association to approach the Indian High Commission in Ghana to assist the department with equipment.

Professor Yeboah Gyan, Dean of the Optometry Department said the equipment had come at an opportune time.

He said all the first year students who would be admitted at the department next academic year would be screened to know the status of their eyes.
