Accra, Aug. 27, GNA – The Indian High Commission on Wednesday presented two motorbikes worth 15 million cedis to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a ceremony in Accra.
The presentation was in response to a request made by the GNA to the Commission to assist it with logistics and training needs. Mr Kailhossou K. Framji, the High Commissioner, recounted the immense role played by the GNA in the production of news and training of journalists over the years.
He said as part of the High Commission’s contribution it has provided the Agency with the list of courses at various institutes in India under the Indian Technical and Economic Co-operation Programme and expressed the hope that the Agency would benefit from such programmes. Mr Framji expressed the Commission’s readiness to assist GNA with computers to facilitate the dissemination of news and information. Mr Robert Kafui Johnson, General Manager of GNA, expressed his appreciation to the High Commission for their assistance and for accepting to offer support in the Agency’s training and human resource development programmes.
“The motor bikes are coming at a time when we have only one serviceable operational vehicle in our pool. Needless to say in our profession where timeliness cannot be compromised, the bikes will help make us more efficient and effective.”
Mr Johnson said the fortunes of the Agency had changed as a result of the government’s budgetary constraints. “Our continued ability to produce news and information on daily basis is a miracle, if you regard the type of technology available to us.
“The main driving force for our existence is the dedicated and selfless human resource that have committed themselves to stay on the job, despite the low remuneration. 27 Aug. 03
