Mr. Isaac Awusu Yibor, an independent parliamentary candidate for Domeabra-Obom in the Greater Accra Region, has promised to transform the living standard of residents if voted to represent them in Parliament come the December election.
He said the area lacked a number of social amenities such as good roads, potable water, clinics and a senior high school.
Mr. Yibor, who made the promise when addressing the chiefs and people at Danchira at a durbar in the Ga South Municipality, said the periods where outsiders were imposed on the people of Domeabra-Obom Constituency must cease in the forthcoming parliamentary election.
He said the constituency had seen people who were elected to represent them in Parliament but the lifestyles of the people remained impoverished. “It is now time we make a change,” he stressed.
Mr. Yibor said the past MPs had done their part and there was the need to elect a person who was born and bred in the constituency, and acquainted with the problems that faced the people in order to find solutions to them.
He said, “We need people with lobbying skills to go to Parliament to woo investors to create job opportunities for the people, especially the youth, but not MPs whose interests are on trivial issues such as bereaved family support or marriage ceremonies to the detriment of the development of the large community.”
Mr. Yibor said if given the nod as MP, his initial assignment would be to liaise with the chiefs and elders in the communities to solve the petty squabbles within the area in order to pave way to initiate developmental projects.
He said the Domeabra-Obom Constituency was a large one and needed to have a Senior High School to absorb the Junior High School graduates; adding that he would construct a technical/vocational institute to give the youth skills in electrical, dressmaking and catering.
The parliamentary aspirant said, because a number of parents in the area could not afford to pay transportation fares of their wards, children were left to fend for themselves.
He appealed to the parents to take the education of their girls seriously and also provide their needs, saying “what a man a can do these days a woman can also do.”
Mr. Yibor assured the people, particularly the women that if he was given the mandate, he would use his office to facilitate access to credit from financial institutions for them.
“I will have an open door administration and anybody who needed assistance from me should not channel it through anybody but come direct to me. Don’t be afraid I am there for you,” he said.
Nii Asafoatse Offei Dodoo of Danchira confirmed that, although the constituency had seen MPs from the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, only marginal change in terms of development could be seen.
Earlier in the day, the aspirant organised a two-hour keep-fit exercise for the people of Danchira and its surrounding communities.
A football match organised also saw Danchira Eleven beating Congo, a nearby community 2-1.**
