Atebubu ((B/A), Sept. 28, GNA – Mr Amankwa Kokro, a 33-year old Tutor at the Atebubu Secondary School in the Brong Ahafo Region has declared his intention to contest the Atebubu South Constituency Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in Election 2004. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Atebubu on Saturday on his intentions, Mr Kokro expressed optimism to win the seat claiming that he had the edge over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates.

He identified education, health and the road network as the major problem areas plaguing the district’s development and promised to help address these problems when elected to Parliament. Mr Kokro also pledged to lobby the government to extend the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) to cover yam production to enable yam farmers to get good prices for yam, which is produced in abundance in the area.

“I will champion the cause of the youth and women who constitute the mainstay of the country when I get to Parliament,” he said. Mr Kokro made an appeal to the electorate to vote on matters of principles and elect the right calibre of people to Parliament. He further urged politicians to use decent language when they mount political platforms to ensure the sustenance of peace and stability the country was enjoying now.

Mr Kokro, therefore, admonished the youth to resist all tendencies that could lead to violence before, during and after Election 2004.
