Independent candidate appeals for Police protection

Kumasi, Sept 26, GNA – Mr Oliver K. K. Nti, an independent candidate for the Ejura-Sekyedumasi in the December parliamentary election, has called for Police protection against alleged threats on his life.

In statement in Kumasi on Monday, Mr Nti, who is the Assembly Member for the Kasei Electoral Area, accused Major Caesar Acheampong (Rtd), District Chief Executive for the Area, of threatening and intimidating him.

Mr Nti attributed the alleged threats to his decision to go solo in the forthcoming election even though he is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Though an NDC member, I decided to contest the parliamentary seat independently rather than let the NDC lose the seat, because the party’s candidate is not popular with the people,” he said.

He said this has been mis-construed leading to threats, intimidation and arbitrary transfer of his supporters.

The statement denied that one Mr Ibrahim Mahama, alias I.M. and the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Peter Boakye Ansah, are funding Mr Nit’s candidature. Mr Nti said Mr Richard Boahen, a Hotelier at Ejura and Mr Kwaku Frimpong of Sekyedumasi are financing his bid due to his popularity.
