Independence parade held at Saltpond

Saltpond (C/R), Mar 7, GNA – Thirty-two contingents of school children and voluntary organizations participated in the 47th Independence Anniversary parade at Saltpond with the Omanhene of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Okese Essandoh VII, divisional chiefs, heads of departments and religious leaders among the large crowd.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Director of Education, Mr Isaac Bart-Addison, Police Commander, Mr Chachawucha Mensah and Fire Officer, Mr Samuel Adabo took the salute. The DCE read President Mr John Agyekum Kufuor’s Independence anniversary message.

Hariom Preparatory School won both the primary and JSS divisions trophy in the march past with 50 and 49 points respectively.

Saltpond Lower Town D/A Primary and JSS won the second place in the two divisions with 46 and 47 points while Saltpond Catholic Primary won the third position with 44 points in the primary division and tied with Saltpond Methodist JSS for the third position with 45 points. Mfantseman Girls Secondary School and Saltpond Methodist High School placed first and second with 47 and 46 points in the senior secondary school division.

All the schools, which placed first, second and third were presented with shields.
