Incumbent MP wins first ever Upper West Akyem primary

Asuotwene (E/R), Jan. 23, GNA – Mr Joseph Amanquanor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akyem, has won the first ever constituency primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be organized in the area. Mr Amanquanor beat Mr D.O.A Bekoe, a businessman, by 206 votes to 36.

Since the birth of the Fourth Republic, candidates for the constituency went unopposed with Mr Samuel Salas-Mensah going unchallenged in four primaries and went on to win the parliamentary seat for those periods.
