Increased water supply in Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A) Oct. 13 GNA – The Nkoranza Water Supply System is to spend about GHC8000 (800 million cedis) on the extension of water supply to newly developed areas of Nkoranza.

The project, which would take about eight months to be completed, would employ about 30 casual labourers for the construction of channels and the erection of poly tanks.

Mr. Stephen Twumasi Gyamfi, Manager, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) the project when completed would save the people from travelling to far away places to fetch water for their domestic activities. He said a booster station would be built whilst the poly tanks would store water for distribution to the Nation Builders International School

area, near Akumsa Domase. Other beneficiary areas are New Kassardjan, New Adomkrom, district assembly area, New market area and Opokukrom estate area. Mr. Gyamfi said the extension programme would cover newly created five sub-communities in Nkoranza, which had a very big population. The Nkoranza Water Supply System was established under the Promotion of District Capitals Project Programme in 1998 and is now owned by the Nkoranza community.

The project has 19 permanent staff and 50 casual workers entrusted with the sale of water to the public. Mr. Gyamfi said the encroachment of land developers on to streets was a major problem as it had become very difficult for them to extend the facility to households and called on the Nkoranza district assembly to help curb the trend. He urged the people to co-operate and lend support to ensure the longer lifespan of the project. 13 Oct. 07
