Increase in infrastructure in private universities would ensure development

Kenyase (Ash), March 5, GNA- The rapid increase in infrastructure and other facilities in private universities and colleges would ensure a congenial environment for teaching and learning. This would also promote development in education since it is the bedrock of every nation.

Mr. Benjamin Adu-Amankwa, Chairman of the University Council of the Garden City University College (GCUC), at Kenyase, near Kumasi, made these statements at a Sod-Cutting ceremony for the construction of laboratory and classroom blocks for the University on Wednesday. The project estimated at A2GH5 million would be executed in three phases.

Mr. Adu-Amankwa indicated that the first phase of the project would involve the provision of classrooms and laboratories for Science programmes. “The Second and third phases of the plan would also involve another cluster of classrooms and an auditorium”, he added. The Chairman of the University Council noted that the institution has made remarkable strides and that the student population had increased since its establishment in 2005. He expressed gratitude to the government and other stake holders for their contributions in diverse ways to enhance teaching and learning in the university.

The principal of the University, Mr. Lord Asamoah, stated that the University, which began with 17 students in 2006, has now 1000 students. The University, he said, offered courses in degree and diploma Programmes including Nursing and Information Communication Technology (ICT).
