“Inconsistent” Sekou should back off Akufo-Addo – Frances

The 2012 parliamentary candidate for the Adentan constituency has lambasted outspoken politician, Dr Sekou Nkrumah, for his comment that the two-time presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, is too old to be president of the country.

According to Frances Assiam, the comment is intended to cause disaffection for Akufo-Addo as the party goes into a special election on Sunday, to whittle down the number of people vying for the flagbearership race of the party.

Dr Nkrumah, who supported the former Cabinet Minister and Legislator, revived the age debate Tuesday when he said: “The age thing cannot be swept under the carpet.”

“Age is becoming a problem for Nana Addo,” the political Activist said.

However, reacting to the comment on Accra-based Okay FM, the former women organizer of the ruling NDC said the caution by Dr Sekou is misplaced and ill calculated.

“How come Sekou is now speaking when he knows the NPP is going to vote on Sunday? Does the constitution bar older individuals from contesting the presidency? Is he the one to decide for the NPP?

“Sekou will do himself a lot of good if he decides to do productive things for himself. Was Mills not old when he supported him to the presidency? Akufo-Addo is not sick, he should leave him alone” she stated.
