Inauguration of 136 assemblies on October 30

Accra, Oct. 30, GNA – Elected and appointed members of three Metropolitan, 10 Municipal and 122 District assemblies would be inaugurated nation-wide on Monday, October 30 for a four-year mandate. The Metropolitan assemblies are Accra, Kumasi, and Shama-Ahanta-East.

The Municipal assemblies are, Tema, Cape Coast, Ho, New Juaben, Obuasi, Techiman, Sunyani, Bawku, Bolgatanga and Wa. The 123 district assemblies are four in Greater Accra, 12 in the Central Region, 14 in Volta Region and 16 in the Eastern Region. The rest are 19 in Ashanti Region, 17 in Brong Ahafo Region, 12 in Western Region, six in Upper East Region and seven in Upper West Region and 16 in the Northern Region.

However, Tamale Metropolitan and Yendi District Assemblies did not participate in the September 26 District Level Elections. Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, in a statement issued in Accra on Sunday, urged the public to support the inauguration of the assemblies in their various communities.

“We wish all the assemblies a successful inauguration and fruitful implementation of their development programmes and good governance at the local level,” it said.
